About This Role

Every position at Common Citizen from seed to sale, is contributing to our mission to serve our fellow citizens of Michigan with the highest quality, safest cannabis product through our highly individualized and education oriented provisioning centers. As such our growers, harvesters and trimmers are all called Cultivation Citizens.

Cultivation Citizens are a part of the Production Team from plant creation to harvest, and some post-harvest activity. This is a dynamic team, and as such daily tasks may vary, resulting in a fast paced and lively work environment. Cultivation Citizens rely on each other for support and are accountable to each other.

What You Will Be Doing

Outlined below is what we see you doing at this point in time. We are a fast-growing company looking for people that are excited to grow along with us.

Cultivation related work, including but not limited to:

  • Always follow Standard Work procedures for all cultivation activities, to ensure consistent quality cannabis products
  • Using state track and trace software to track all activities and work performed in the cultivation team: including plant tagging and tracking, waste tracking, nutrient and crop inputs, harvest entry, and harvest batch tracking
  • Responsible for sanitation of equipment and production areas, preparation and maintenance of nutrient reservoirs and irrigation system
  • Assure all cannabis products are free from contamination risk at all stages; from propagation to harvest
  • Monitor for quality control checks to ensure process and product quality in line with company standards
  • Maintain a clean and tidy workspace and displays a high standard of cleanliness and organization
  • Collaborate with other Cultivation Citizens in daily cultivation tasks, training, and review of process with a continuous improvement mentality
  • Employ professional and clear communication practices to maintain a positive and progressive team atmosphere
  • Identify a wide variety of conditions such as plant diseases, existence of insects, nutrient deficiencies, etc.

Harvest related work, including but not limited to:

  • Pre-harvest fan leaf removal in the flower room and recording the waste
  • Removing trellis netting, cutting down the plant, weighing the plant, and entering the wet weight into METRC
  • Removing the waste fan leaves and hanging the plant for drying
  • After the plant is dry, removing the flower from the stem and store for curing

Post-harvest work, including but not limited to:

  • Monitoring the curing process and recording moisture content
  • Trimming and sorting flower for packaging

The Experience You Bring

  • Degree in Horticulture, Biology, Agriculture, or equivalent is preferred, but not required. Experience in agricultural or food safety/handling industry is acceptable in lieu of degree.
  • Computer proficiency is a must. Experience with cannabis track-and-trace software such as BioTrack, MJ Freeway, or METRC is a plus.
  • Efficient cultivation/production work ethic with application of problem-solving skills to overcome daily cultivation/production issues.
  • Knowledge of plant diseases, insects and fungi, as well as plant treatment processes and options.

Job Title: Director of Cultivation
Department: Cultivation/ Operations
Reports to: Director of Operations

About This Role

Based in Marshall, Michigan and reporting into the Director of Operations, The Director of Cultivation will work collaboratively with the greenhouse team towards mentoring and coaching the cultivation citizens to both love what they do and do it well. The Director of Cultivation is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the cultivation production, cultivation citizens, and ensuring that all processes are being followed and implementing new processes where necessary. The cultivation team plays a critical role in delivering on our mission to serve our fellow citizens of Michigan with the highest quality, safest cannabis products.

Our cultivation team is a dynamic team, and as such daily grow and harvest tasks may vary, resulting in a fast paced and lively work environment. The cultivation team relies on the Director of Cultivation’s support, guidance and inspiration.

As with everyone at Common Citizen, the Director of Cultivation is also expected to care about and contribute to the Common Citizen fight to end the social stigma surrounding cannabis, helping more people discover the greater quality of life it can provide.

What You Will Be Doing

Grow related work, including but not limited to:

  • Responsible for sanitation of equipment and production areas, preparation and maintenance of nutrient reservoirs and irrigation system

  • Maintaining a clean and tidy workspace and displaying a high standard of cleanliness and organization

  • Working with the inventory team to forecast raw material needs to ensure grow and harvest supplies are always on hand when needed and waste is minimal
  • Managing logistics of the cultivation team including, scheduling, task management and assignment, productivity tracking and workflow optimization, and inter-department communication to meet inventory needs
  • Helping the cultivation team grow and develop new skills through career discussions and planning

The Experience You Bring

  • Degree in Horticulture, Biology, Agriculture, or equivalent is preferred. Experience in agricultural or food safety/handling industry is acceptable in lieu of degree.
  • Computer proficiency is a must. Experience with cannabis track-and-trace software such as BioTrack, MJ Freeway, or METRC is a plus.
  • Must be proficient in using greenhouse climate and building control software, specifically Priva
  • Efficient cultivation/production work ethic with application of problem-solving skills to overcome daily cultivation/production issues.

Job Title: FACILITIES TECH (Facilities Maintenance Tech)

About This Role

At Common Citizen, we believe taking care of our facilities is everyone’s responsibility and thus we call our Facilities Maintenance tech a Facilities Tech; working with the entire onsite team to keep the facility operating efficiently and effectively towards producing the highest quality, safest cannabis product with the greatest education at the lowest possible cost.

Reporting to the Facilities Lead, the Facilities Tech will be responsible with assisting the team for smooth operations of our plant/greenhouse at the Marshall facility. In this role, your responsibilities will encompass assisting with operational efficiency, work order completion, control systems & preventative maintenance.

As with everyone at Common Citizen, our Facilities Tech should also have a personal passion for contributing to the Common Citizen movement to end the social stigma that prevents people from discovering the higher quality of life that cannabis can provide.

What You Will Be Doing

Continuously Refine Operations to Maximize Efficiency. A Facilities Tech must have the ability to learn, assist and help improve the facilities maintenance schedule and equipment specifications. Support and delivery reliability and partner with your co-workers to create continuous improvement opportunities by assisting to refining/create work activity to drive efficiency into the manufacturing or delivery of services.

Primary duties include:

  • Follow all safety policies while working safely in the facility environment. Actively promote and adopt the safety culture that all accidents are preventable
  • Follow all GMP's to ensure the Integrity of our product.
  • Attend and support all training opportunities
  • Assist and perform day to day physical facility maintenance, by maintaining a close working relationship with Facilities Lead
  • Sustain workload in a preventative maintenance plan and ensure good communication with outside
    contractors as required.
  • Assist daily with facilities security needs
  • Maintain a clean and 5S work area - adopt and promote the site Lean manufacturing adaptation
  • Maintain HVAC physical plant per equipment manufacturer’s recommendations, and in a safe and trouble-free manner.
  • Assist lead with special projects associated with building changes, including but not limited to construction, expansion, and reconfiguration.
  • Assist lead on special projects (e.g., construction projects, equipment selection, cost-reductions)
  • Assist lead on all electrical systems as necessary and as circumstances dictate, provide necessary cross-training of systems such as Fire Panel, UPS system, VFD’s, etc.

About This Role

As a Purchasing Manager, you are responsible for the planning and placing of orders, and/or rescheduling delivery of orders for assigned parts, materials, and supplies pertaining to the manufacturing process, or items required for general business activities – ensuring quality standards are met and products are purchased at the best value.

Reporting into the Supply Chain Director, the Purchasing Manager will be responsible for purchasing strategy, vendor sourcing, management and negotiations; order fulfillment; and budget control. Items purchased will include but not be limited to raw material/consumables, packaging materials, retail supplies, facility & office supplies, facility & office services, capital expenditures and third party finished products for our dispensaries.

Sourcing and Vendor Relations, of materials, supplies, services and equipment, including but not limited to:

  • Sourcing of raw consumables, supplies and materials with an eye to the greatest quality, lowest possible cost, so our teams always have on hand what they need to keep working efficiently and effectively
  • Maintaining an up-to-date vendor database, constantly tracking/reassessing existing and assessing new suppliers/vendors to optimize our roster on an ongoing basis
  • Sourcing capital expenditures that meet the specs of the internal brief to the highest quality and lowest possible cost
  • Developing RFI/RFP formats and effectively managing the RFI/RFP, NDA, credit check, quote and bid processes
  • Summarizing RFI/RFP submissions, conducting a cost-benefit analyzes and working collaboratively with the Supply Chain team on vendor choices
  • Negotiating contracts towards the lowest possible, fair cost & terms
  • Managing the relationship and timely payment to all vendors to facilitate timely order fulfillment and delivery of accurate, damage-free shipments

Purchasing/Ordering & Receiving for all our business verticals, including but not limited to:

  • Strategic procurement planning and analytics, with an eye towards continuous optimization
  • Placing and processing of purchase orders with our vendors
  • Careful tracking and updating of order statuses
  • Accurate data entry, record keeping and reconciliation
  • Ensures on-time receipt of products, inventory accuracy and 3-way match.
  • Working manager role.

Planning & Internal teamwork, including but not limited to:

  • Identifying or creating procurement tools, templates, and best practice processes, minimizing waste in the internal workflow
  • Working with the Supply Chain Team to fulfill purchase orders; communicating and collectively problem-solving together when delays or other order issues arise
  • Working with the Finance Team to create and manage the procurement budget
  • Working with the Finance Team to ensure timely and accurate vendor invoice processing to respect our vendors, maintain strong vendor relationships and reflect our corporate commitment to acting with humanity
  • Working collaboratively with our compliance team
  • Utilizing/ rolling out our ERP
  • Works internally to assist in addressing all aspects of material management including procurement support, project support, pricing, and material availability
  • Responsible for driving material cost/lead time in support of program vision with aligned supplier sourcing supporting manufacturing needs
  • Collaborate with operations and supply chain teams driving action supporting program vision and milestone deliverables
  • Identify risk, mitigate and escalate to get support as needed

Education/ Experience

  • Post-secondary education in Procurement, Supply Chain Management or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years in CPG, Pharma or Cannabis industry in a supply chain or procurement capacity
  • Proficiency in creating, reading and interpreting financial databases
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite – especially MS Excel and MS PowerPoint
  • Working knowledge of ERPs

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to lift and move up to 50 pounds regularly.
