The role of the Common Citizen Budtender, who we like to call Citizen Advisor, is one of utmost importance. As a Citizen Advisor you are the face of the company and need to treat all our guests with great humanity. Advisors are educators first, salespeople second. Their primary role is to provide unparalleled customer service in which they educate their fellow citizens, the dispensary guests, and help them discover the cannabis products that will help them achieve a higher quality of life.

When not assisting their fellow citizens, Advisors are responsible for keeping the dispensary clean and orderly, including keeping bathrooms presentable and well stocked. About This Role

Core to the CX lead role is the profound responsibility for ensuring the entire consumer experience, from a non-customer to a loyal customer & passionate advocate of Common Citizen, is cohesive, seamless and most importantly infused with the humanity that is at the core of why we do what we do.

The CX lead will have planning & activation oversight for every touch point with our customers, who we like to call our fellow citizens. This includes but is not limited to brand marketing, & product advertising, media placement & buying, community engagement & events, sales & promotions, retail experience & merchandising, ecommerce and customer support. In development and continuous optimization of an exceptional customer experience, he/she will work alongside the head of people & culture, data & technology, and product innovation & packaging.

Reporting into the Chief Growth Officer, one of the founders of Common Citizen, the CX lead will build a team of both internal and external talented experts to bring our brand positioning to life on both a macro and local level, delivering strong ROI.

As with everyone at Common Citizen, our CX lead should also have a personal passion for contributing to the Common Citizen movement to end the social stigma that prevents people from discovering the higher quality of life that cannabis can provide.

This role will be based in Michigan, with occasional travel to our provisioning centres, for community outreach/events, and working with external partners.

What You Will Be Doing

Outlined below is what we see you doing at this point in time. We are a fast-growing company looking for people that are excited to grow along with us.

Experience Ecosystem – leading the conceptualization of an end-to-end customer experience, including:

  • Connecting the dots between marketing, retail, customer support and the enabling technlogy
  • Aligning all consumer touchpoints with the Common Citizen brand blueprint and purpose
  • Ensuring consistency in brand identity to drive familiarity and recognizability
  • Purposeful research, insights & analytics to continuously understand & optimize the health of our brand reputation & experience
  • Determining KPIs and optimizing spend and ROI across all key pillars of the CX

Marketing & Advertising – guiding and coaching our CX team and external partners in delivering all macro/brand and local/community level activations, including:

  • Highly impactful marketing campaigns that demonstrate our leadership role in the social revolution of cannabis, and make Common Citizen a household name
  • Fueling local community connection & other community engagement efforts (ie. influencers, events, sponsorships, participation, contributions)
  • Highly effective & efficient consumer funnel marketing towards inspiring every common citizen (multiple consumer segments) to find their way to safe, high quality cannabis that meets their personal needs through our brand and retail stores, including new product launches and promotional offers
  • Utilizing data analytics and media automation (ie. placement, re-targeting, buying, SEO/SEM) towards continuous optimization
  • Creating a team of exceptional content creators (possibly an inhouse content studio &/or external partners), for development of social content, promotional material, web content, event material, including Writing & scripting, art direction & graphic design, videography & editing

Customer Support – ensuring all our customers, existing & future, have access to quality advice & highly personalized cannabis education, including:

  • Their experience within our retail stores and interaction with our customer service reps
  • Their experience with and surrounding our branded products in 3rd party retail outlets
  • Their experience on our website and other ecommerce platforms

Co-creation - partnering with neighbouring internal teams to infuse the following with our brand experience vision:

  • Product Innovation. Working together to both ensure our product experience lives up to our brand promise, and our new product development is consumer-need driven
  • People & Culture. Working with the organizational design and brand reputation team to ensure our retail team delivers a service experience that puts people first
  • Data & Technology. Working with our technology team to optimize our use of technology and data collection/analytics in driving exceptional marketing campaigns and brand experience

Coaching & Mentoring, including but not limited to:

  • Collaboratively creating and constantly refining our customer experience standard work processes towards the highest quality, most value-add output
  • Guiding the effective and efficient management of the customer experience budget
  • Ensuring team compliance with cannabis industry marketing guidelines, rules & regulations
  • Motivating, clear and deeply human communication practices to maintain a positive and progressive team energy, internally & externally
  • External partner and agency relationship management

The Experience You Bring

  • Business degree with a focus on marketing, communications or technology
  • 15+ years of experience in integrated marketing activation
  • Retail marketing experience is a must
  • CPG, food health & wellness, social good and/or pharma marketing experience preferred

About This Role

Every position at Common Citizen from seed to sale, is contributing to our mission to serve our fellow citizens of Michigan with the highest quality, safest cannabis product through our highly individualized and education oriented provisioning centres. As such our growers, harvesters and trimmers are all called Cultivation Citizens.

Cultivation Citizens are a part of the Production Team from plant creation to harvest, and some post-harvest activity. This is a dynamic team, and as such daily tasks may vary, resulting in a fast paced and lively work environment. Cultivation Citizens rely on each other for support and are accountable to each other.

What You Will Be Doing

Outlined below is what we see you doing at this point in time. We are a fast-growing company looking for people that are excited to grow along with us.

Cultivation related work, including but not limited to:

  • Always follow Standard Work procedures for all cultivation activities, to ensure consistent quality cannabis products
  • Using state track and trace software to track all activities and work performed in the cultivation team: including plant tagging and tracking, waste tracking, nutrient and crop inputs, harvest entry, and harvest batch tracking
  • Responsible for sanitation of equipment and production areas, preparation and maintenance of nutrient reservoirs and irrigation system
  • Assure all cannabis products are free from contamination risk at all stages; from propagation to harvest
  • Monitor for quality control checks to ensure process and product quality in line with company standards
  • Maintain a clean and tidy workspace and displays a high standard of cleanliness and organization
  • Collaborate with other Cultivation Citizens in daily cultivation tasks, training, and review of process with a continuous improvement mentality
  • Employ professional and clear communication practices to maintain a positive and progressive team atmosphere
  • Identify a wide variety of conditions such as plant diseases, existence of insects, nutrient deficiencies, etc.

Harvest related work, including but not limited to:

  • Pre-harvest fan leaf removal in the flower room and recording the waste
  • Removing trellis netting, cutting down the plant, weighing the plant, and entering the wet weight into METRC
  • Removing the waste fan leaves and hanging the plant for drying
  • After the plant is dry, removing the flower from the stem and store for curing

Post-harvest work, including but not limited to:

  • Monitoring the curing process and recording moisture content
  • Trimming and sorting flower for packaging

The Experience You Bring

  • Degree in Horticulture, Biology, Agriculture, or equivalent is preferred. Experience in agricultural or food safety/handling industry is acceptable in lieu of degree.
  • Computer proficiency is a must. Experience with cannabis track-and-trace software such as BioTrack, MJ Freeway, or METRC is a plus.
  • Efficient cultivation/production work ethic with application of problem-solving skills to overcome daily cultivation/production issues.
  • Knowledge of plant diseases, insects and fungi, as well as plant treatment processes and options.
  • Must have accountability, proactive behavior, strong attention to detail. Can follow company policies and contribute towards the goal of achieving production targets within set timelines.
  • Good communication and documentation skills.
  • Must be able to lift, pull and push 50 pounds and stand for entire 8-hour shift

As a Citizen Manager, you will be responsible for bringing human resources expertise & action to our fast-growing team. You will lead our HR efforts, ranging from recruiting to people management to compliance to process management & administration, building for best practices from the ground up.

This role will report into our head of People & Culture and be based in Marshall Michigan, and you will also frequently visit and connect with all our citizens at our various retail locations.
