Common Citizen receives International Council of Shopping Centers Gold Award for Flint retail store design
FLINT, Mich. – Common Citizen, the lifestyle brand of Michigan’s largest vertically integrated pharmaceutical-grade medical cannabis company Michigan Pure Med, has been honored by the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) with the Gold Award for retail store design.
“We are truly honored to be recognized by the ICSC for the design of our Flint location because we designed it with people in mind,” said Michael Elias, CEO of Michigan Pure Med and Common Citizen. “We offer human-centered, purpose-driven cannabis products that serve the unique needs of our patients, and we’re proud to offer a welcoming space that helps them find the right cannabis products for their needs.”
The building – formerly the Raincheck Lounge – was transformed into a state-of-the-art cannabis dispensary catering to people from all walks of life. The design and layout reflects Common Citizen’s human-centered philosophy. It displays Common Citizen’s brand prominently, along with photos of patients, artwork, warm lighting and clean-lined furniture.
Common Citizen’s products are organized in four categories known as “Common States” to meet patients’ unique needs. The store features freestanding tables that are color coded to highlight each Common State, making it easier for patients to explore products. There is also a café where people can relax and enjoy coffee.
ICSC announced the winners of the 2019 North America Design & Development Awards competition, which each year recognizes excellence, innovation and creativity in the U.S. and Canada retail real estate industry, on Dec. 9. ICSC reviewed submissions from developers, architects, designers, retailers and other groups.
Common Citizen is the only Michigan retailer honored by ICSC in 2019. Previous Michigan honorees include Eastern Market Dining Experience and Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport.
Common Citizen opened its Flint location in May, followed by locations in Emmett Township and Detroit. It plans to open additional Michigan locations in 2020. Common Citizen also offers a delivery service that brings products to patients’ doorsteps. Flint store hours are Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
